Dr. Ramasubbu Seenivasan from VIT University, India, Coordinator of YPARD Asia attended the opening ceremony of YPARD Vietnam office placed at Nong Lam University, on the 16 September 2011. He introduced YPARD activities to young scientists in Vietnam and asserted the willingness of YPARD Vietnam to implement intensive activities to support to young professionals as well as farmers in promotion of agricultural production. At the occasion of the new YPARD Vietnam office opening, with the purpose of building a network within which young scientists can share experience and research result in agriculture, YPARD Vietnam organized a successful workshop on “Young scientists for agricultural development in Vietnam”. YPARD Vietnam invited speakers from various universities and institutes related to agriculture research and development to present their achievements at the workshop. For example, Dr. Nguyen Van Nam from Tay Nguyen University shared his results with title of study was “Multifunction Microorganisms in Environmental friendly Agriculture at Highland Centre of Vietnam”. Another presentation was “Development of PMWaV-2 (Pineapple Mealybug Wilt associated with Virus-2) free Queen Pineapple by in vitro in practical production” of scientist Nguyen Van Kha from Can Tho University. And other interesting presentations were presented. The workshop gathered more 50 participants. They are young scientists from universities, institutes and department of science and technology from different provinces in the south of Vietnam such as Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Binh Duong and Dong Nai province. Additionally, a delegate from Department of Agriculture of Laos D.R. also participated in this event. Toan Pham, the YPARD Vietnam representative with the collaboration of Dr Seenivasan is working on further activities in Vietnam.
