PhD position Food Governance in EU - Wageningen University

The Public Administration and Policy [PAP] Group at Wageningen University offers a position for a 4-year PhD project on “Food governance: new EU agendas of food and food security?”. Food security is used in many different strategic ways and actors link it to a variety of other policy issues. The aim of the PhD project is to understand how the European Union and its member states define and construct food security. The PhD will analyze how the different views and ideas about food security come about and how they (are likely to) affect other EU policy domains such as climate change, animal welfare, land-ownership, development aid, and the use of biofuels.Key theories are ideational leadership, agenda setting and framing. The project will be conducted within the group's research program “Changing governance, governing change.”The research is carried out in Wageningen, the Netherlands, and should lead to a PhD dissertation.DescriptionThe PAP Group is looking for a social scientist with a Masters degree in public administration, policy studies, political science, or communication studies, and should have a keen interest in EU governance and food policies.Fluency in English and preferably other EU official languages and good communication skills are essential. Experience with empirical research projects, interdisciplinary research and both quantitative and qualitative research methods is an advantage.BenefitsA PhD position for a period of 18 months, extended with another 30 months upon favorable evaluation.Gross salary will increase from € 2042 in the first year up to € 2612 in the last year based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week).You will be working in a pleasant environment in a small, dynamic and innovative group.Application and information Please upload your curriculum vitae and motivation letter online latest on November 30, 2011.
