The Economics of Ecosystems & Biodiversity for Agriculture & Food Expert Workshop Brussels, 8-11 September 2015

The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB), a UNEP initiative working to ensure nature's values are  visible in public and private decision-making  is seeking  for  experts to attend the TEEBAgFood Expert Workshop. One of the TEEB workstreams is on an exciting and ambitious global study on "TEEB for Agriculture & Food". At its core, this study will seek to provide a comprehensive economic evaluation of the ‘eco-agri-food systems’ complex, and demonstrate that the economic environment in which farmers operate is distorted by significant externalities, both negative and positive, and a lack of awareness of dependency on natural capital. From 8-11 September in Brussels, TEEB will be hosting a 3.5 day EXPERT WORKSHOP in order to accomplish a number of objectives that will allow them to continue building the key foundations for this study. These objectives include:(i) Review inputs from a variety of studies on different 'externalities-heavy' agricultural sectors, including palm oil, livestock, agro-forestry and inland fisheries;(ii) Identify gaps and lessons learned;(iii) Finalize a study framework for valuation;(iv) Explore options for additional research; and(v) Agree on content, structure and writing teams for core substantive reports. If you would like to register for this event, please write an email to with “Workshop Registration: <Surname>” in the subject line. Please include: full name, nationality, professional title, organization, and indicate whether you are able to self-finance your travel. To request financial assistance (for which they have a limited budget available for developing country participants), please include a short statement of interest/motivation (250 words max) as soon as possible, and they will get back to you once your application has been reviewed.
